pray always
“The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know… Since prayer is at the bottom of all this, what I want mostly is for men to pray, not shaking angry fists at enemies but raising holy hands to God.” (1 Timothy 2:1,8)
Paul’s first piece of advice to young Timothy is to pray. Make prayer at the centre of everything. Pray for leaders, for those outside the church, and to connect with a Bigger Source. To lift all things up to God.
How vital it is to keep a connection with our Creator. To learn to inhale the promises and words and visions of the divine. We’re surrounded by so many distractions that threaten to starve us of that connection. To take our focus away from the Living One.
Today’s the last day of Adam. What an experience - and surprisingly, what an experience on prayer. I didn’t carve out a little corner dedicated to kneeling prayers and tongues. But I found myself before every show learning to centre myself and find focus amidst all the voices that would conspire to take my confidence away. It was such a blessing to find peace when I needed it the most, to not shake hands with my worst enemies and demons, but to simply worship the One who is just Great. To find grace.
I want that. I want that living, breathing relationship with the Spirit that jams all the forces in this world. I want the freedom of knowing that as a Child of God, my worth lies not in reputation, status, image, plaudits. I am made whole simply by being His.
Oh Father, I come humbly to say: thank you. You have blessed me with friends, love, joy, opportunities.
But Lord, I’m nothing without prayer. May it be the centre of communion with you. May I find all I need in you.
Amen.
