faithful to a fault

“Depend on it: God keeps his word even when the whole world is lying through its teeth. Scripture says the same:
Your words stand fast and true;
Rejection doesn’t faze you.” (Romans 3:4)

Will our faithlessness ever cancel out God’s faithfulness? It’s a valid question asked in Paul’s letter to the Romans. His answer is emphatic: not on your life. His words rise above our confusion and duplicity. His words are unshakeable. God is faithful to a fault, melded to his promises.

In a world where faithlessness abounds, where loyalties are fleeting, where we’re in it for what we can get and not what we can give, God stands out. It’s amazing how opposite the world operates from the father’s heart. We dismiss God with such ease, treat him like a vending machine. Our words to Him can be so worthless, because we are led astray by sin, by pressures.

Yet, God’s promises still ring true. I’m boggled by it. Even when I’m indulging in sin, even when I don’t tap into a source of faithhopelove, choosing instead to fight and compete against everyone for my share, God’s promises are clear and steadfast. You are mine. I’ve redeemed You and call You by name. You are my Son. Created for freedom.

What a God. What amazing grace. Such is the strength of God’s words, that cuts through all our lies and philosophies and a myriad of voices, to speak to our hearts. Even in my most faithless state, my father is faithful. Even when I should be abandoned for my deviousness, God embraces. It’s the power of this kind of love that breaks the chains of slavery, that causes sons and daughters to rise to their making. This is the grace that conquers sin. This is the grace that the world craves and one day will see.

Oh Father. You are faithful - some would say to a fault. But in my faithlessness, you are still faithful. You’re always here. Your words breaks any power.

I rejoice father, because I am Yours. Let me learn to live a life of faithhopelove. I am Yours. Amen.
